CV Axle Replacement and Removal axle shaft - Replace CV or all of the half-tree

Change C.V.? (Constant Velocity) today axles is almost as common as doing brake jobs. But some CV axles can be quite stubborn to remove. In this article, learn some tips that I have used over the years as a Master Tech to the evolution CV and 1/2 trees easier. automotive specialty tools are sometimes needed to make the job easier, I will discuss some of them and it is better to replace the entire half-shaft, seal or just the CV boot. by clicking towers Since you are reading this you may know a common sign of a bad CV joint is popping and clicking turns. A chill on straight departures could be a worn inner seal, but it is much less common. exterior joints were most movements (as in corners), that's why outdoor boots usually have more than internal. CV boots are designed to pump the fat throughout the joint during movement. Wear that causes joints to external noise can be accelerated if the dry rot startup CV breaks or wear and lubrication of fat is lost. If the CV boot breaks, the fat is thrown out of joint by centrifugal force while driving. Fat to maintain the lubricated seal and cooler, its life is considerably reduced. Furthermore external factors such as moisture and dirt can enter the joint, which further reduces their life expectancy. Once they are, they make a clicking noise on bends while accelerating. If they are loud, the whole half of the tree may be the best way to go instead of just replacing the joint. CV 1/2 tree prices have descended in the last decade and are more readily available than they used to be. Removing the half shaft The work of the abolition of half-shafts on most cars is mostly the same.
  1. Remove the large nut that holds the seal in the wheel hub.
  2. It may be necessary to unlock or not cut the brake hose to prevent stretch when removing the axle.
  3. The steering knuckle (where the rotor brake supports) must either be loosened in mounting strut or the lower ball joint to allow the shaft to slip out of the hub. Choose the easiest!
  4. The inner CV will be kept in the transmission by bolts or with a retaining clip (the clip is not visible).
  5. If there are no bolts on the inner seal, in most cases it will be pried with a lever.
  6. Alternatively, a slide hammer with a C.V. hood seal can be used to remove the inner seal of the transmission.
Inspect and Replace Boots You might be able to detect and replace worn boots before damage is done C.V. seal. If the boot has dry rot and is about to crack or has recently divided. And the Common CV does not sounds yet, he was caught in time. The entire half of the CV shaft can be removed and just the shoe can be replaced with new grease course. CV starter kit also comes with two clamps and special grease. It is cheaper to restart a joint, but it is a little more work. Of the cars that I know, many times I changed the CV boot without taking the shaft completely out of the car. Usually, however, the rod is removed and placed in a vise to be worked. The old boot is cut to help reveal this type of retainer clip keeps the seal on the shaft 1/2.When a product is used, as own brake and the joint angle is it's easier to see the clip. The joint may need to be rotated while being held on an angle to see the clip. Most require either a clamp to lock ring to expand the locking ring or the joint may be strongly hit with a hammer (care must be taken not to damage the cage). If you have any doubt about this type of tax that you work with, consult a service manual for your specific model. You should know that the ball bearings can fall when the joint is off the shaft and the cage is turned to the side depending on the type it is. After cleaning and drying with compressed air, the grease bag can be cut on the corner and the grease is pressed in the center of the joint. It is common to force some of the old fat that has been trapped by it. Collect and dispose of any old grease may ooze. Put the chest and back attached to the shaft by broadcasting the clip or tapping lightly with a brass hammer. Special CV boot seal the clamping tools are needed to tighten the belts correctly. There are two main types of pliers. There is a type that will be set with a boot clamp. The other type requires a banding tool, this type is wound tight and bent using the same motion as you would with a can opener.A common mistake is damaging the exit seal of the transmission when removing or reinstalling the axle. If the seal is damaged, the transmission fluid will leak. Be sure to center the inner seal when the hand. Also a mistake that is made, even by professionals or break the retaining ring that holds the axle in the transmission or not to install the axle completely IN. It is normal to feel a little movement in and out by pushing and pulling the inner seal when properly installed. If the retaining clip is broken or not fully inserted, the tree can drag enough that the car is not moving! Also, if tapping the new shaft in the transmission, be careful not to damage the external threads. Remember, if this is your first axle employment, do not hesitate to have a buddy with the call on experience!
