But seriously, I was talking to a former World Rally Championship (WRC) or mechanic 2 the other week and they were saying how much rally. The big rally names - namely the WRC - Rally Wales and never make any money at it! If it is a big team like Ford, Subaru or Citroen etc., then they will lose money every time without question, because it is virtually impossible to make money with it.
For example, the auto giants Subaru company (which released recently WRC), it is a kind of "Leader Loss file" because they pay all the drivers, mechanics and great technicians, many money sometimes, but Subaru loses money each rally. However, the point is that they can really get good publicity and research for their road cars go like the Impreza WRX for sale by weight (this they actually did) and probably make millions as the sale and the road cars go (some group N rallying level) for the masses of preference. It is also a fun way to get "tax relief"!
